It would be great to be able to place sprites on fractions of pixels, by using modulus of a whole pixel value to figure out alphas of pixels across the image (think Bresenham's line algorithm for anti-aliasing). This would be superb for small graphics like sprites.

I've seen a sprite animation example of this in ActionScript 3 but I cannot for the life of me find the URL (it was a couple of years ago). It is insanely beautiful for smooth scrolling on a fine scale.

Anyway I'm guessing this would be non-trivial to implement but any thoughts are welcome.

Definitely an interesting one. Sounds like a bit of research project first though :)
