First of all huge thanks to Kev and the current dev team for making Slick so great, i was about ready to give up on game development after some bad experiences but now im just getting started

So: Lightning is a vertical scrolling shoot-em-up (Ikaruga, Raiden etc) with a twist: you can’t shoot. Instead, your ship has a ‘magnet’ which can attract and capture enemy ships, at which point they become friendly (weapons). The problem is the magnet attracts enemy bullets too, and then some tougher enemies have shielding against the magnet – which is when things get really interesting...

Screens (keep in mind it looks a lot better in motion with particles)

The game took about 6 months on and off to make as a solo project - mostly learning - with all the gfx from scratch and all the sounds from either SFXR or FreeSound. The code was 'vanilla' Slick but Spiegel's Entity class was a life-saver (

So yeah, share your thoughts on anything that comes to mind - especially if any glitches managed to slip through, thanks!
