for a week now every other post I make couses long delay and SMTP error... I'll post this to see what it says :)

Edit:
nothing this time. But it was something about line 112 in smtp.php or something like that.

Yes, I had that last night. It said it was a timeout problem - maybe I was typing too much too slow :lol:

Thats cause I keep playing with settings. Unfortunately I can't find an SMTP server that the forum likes since my normal one has died.

I don't actually use any of the notifications, so if you ask me just turn off notifications and smtp completely.

whats about googlemail? (requires tls or ssl)
You can setup an extra gmail account for that and send emails through it...

phpBB uses tls, when php is compiled with it, as I remember.

You can also use SSL:

SMTP server address: ssl://smtp.gmail.com
SMTP server port: 465
Authentication method for SMTP: LOGIN
SMTP username: your_name@gmail.com
