Hey guys,

Game Jolt have started a themed contest that runs through August (the whole month).
The theme is "Axioms".

Don't know what an axiom is? Here's a good definition from wiktionary:
"A self-evident and necessary truth; a proposition which it is necessary to take for granted; a proposition whose truth is so evident that no reasoning or demonstration can make it plainer."

Since people have their own axioms, Game Jolt have provided a list which you must implement at least one of.
    - A picture is worth a thousand words
    - Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
    - Even a broken clock is right twice a day
    - Laughter is the best medicine
    - No good deed goes unpunished
    - Quitters never win; winners never quit
    - Actions speak louder than words
    - Where there's smoke, there's fire
    - In the country of the blind, the one-eyed man is king
    - A burnt child dreads the fire

You are allowed to collaborate, submit multiple games, and you can use any tools and language you want! GameJolt support Slick/LWJGL Applets!

If your game comes in the top 3, it will be features on the front page and you will be entered into the ad-revenue sharing beta.

Anyway, there's no point me writing everything here if there's the link to the official thread!

I hope for some Slicky competition. Wink

Sssh. Don't tell anyone but it seems to me that "Quitters never win, winners never quit" goes for any game that has a logical conclusion.

But I suppose that would be the easy way out.

"A good deed never goes unpunished" could be a whole lot of fun to do.

Walk a lady across the street and she's swatting you with her purse the whole way. The walking is automatic, it's the purse that you have to watch out for (and dodge away from).

Best of luck to all who enter.

If there are any artists or musicians around, I am looking to collab on this contest. Also, keep in mind that I'll be taking this opportunity to learn a new language though. Razz

Here's a rough bit from my entry:

Inverse Polarity

Axiom 1) A burnt child dreads the fire.
Axiom 2) Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Everytime I try something different, it always ends up as a some kind of platformer.
I just updated myself with your blog, Gornova, and realised that I had planned some concepts of 'cloning' the player like in the boxman game you had featured last month! haha Smile

I'm curious. Are you using any tools for building your levels (TiLED) or do you have your own level building tool?

Damon isn't complete, and is nowhere near complete! The worlds are so big! I need a way of downsizing the project! No, the source is not open, it's sloppy code, no proper collisions with slopes and things, no AI. You don't want to see it. Wink

I will be using TilED for my level building. I've been up drawing all of the tilesets today. Smile
