Is there a program to make this easier. I'm having major difficulty getting my sprites to line up so I can play them back in game. Thanks for any help and tips.

In the past i have used Gimp its a free opensource image editor (like photoshop) what you can do is place ruler markers horizontally and vertically to the standard hight an width of your sprites and create a sheet that way.. then when ur done u can save it as a PNG.. and ur set!

There is one used with Slick called Packer and it's found on the main Slick page
http://slick.cokeandcode.com/
http://slick.cokeandcode.com/demos/packer.jnlp

There are methods in Slick to make accessing the sprite sheet easy.

As Disk1o5 said, you could use Gimp, there are some python plugins to make the work easier.

Take a look at Gimp plugin registry, search for sprite. We used sprite tape plugin and modified it a bit to add more functionality.

Hope this could be of help.

A great tool for that purpose is GlueIt.

You can find it here: http://sysimage.250free.com/

You can even play back the sheet as an animation with an arbitrary delay time between the frames.

Hey thanks for the help guys. Is there a tool that would allow me to load my images and then line them up in the tool? The problem is putting them together so the play back right. They always are off and it seems impossible to get them right. I used to work on characters in a game engine called MUGEN. We had this tool.

http://inverse.mgbr.net/TutorialRipping ... ilding.htm

This allowed to load images in. Line them up and then play them back extremely easy. It wouldn't save them to a sprite sheet but saved it as a text file that told the program where to line the sprite up at. I don't have to have them a sprite sheet. I just want to load them in so they play back right. Seems like there has to be a tool like that somewhere.

edit:

Hey guys. I've been searching around and it seems this tool does kind of what I want it to do.

http://spritevortex.codeplex.com/

This will allow me to export the xml data of how to draw the sprites properly. This may work out.
